Mission Statement

Caritas Creek's mission is: to help young people discover the connection between all living things; to build bridges between diverse socio-economic and ethnic groups; and to foster in youth a deeper connection to the natural environment, to self, to the spirit of love, and to community.

To accomplish this mission, Caritas Creek established an environmental butterflyeducation program for schools and a summer camp for children and youth, founded in 1975.

History

Caritas Creek was founded in 1975 by a group of Bay Area educators. For over 30 years, hundreds of Bay Area schools (and tens of thousands of children) have benefited from the services, mission, and philosophy of Caritas Creek. The outdoor education program is a vital part of many schools' curriculum. Former locations were in Mendocino and Occidental, California. The Outdoor Education program will operate at Camp Cazadero (in Sonoma County near the Russian River) starting in the fall of 2007.

Why All the Effort?

Because we, as educators, parents, and community members are acutely aware of the need for school and summer programs that foster environmental and interpersonal understanding and interaction - and fun! We firmly believe that Caritas Creek's mission is relevant today for children, schools, and communities - indeed we believe that this program is an essential step for a sustainable future.
